DUSTIN CHAFIN
FULL BIOGRAPHY: Dustin Chafin is a nationally headlining comedian whose sharp storytelling and fearless crowd work have taken him from HBO's Crashing and Showtime's Comedy Showcase to sold-out venues across America. With two comedy albums in rotation on SiriusXM and a new Dry Bar Comedy special, Cranky Pants, Dustin continues to prove why he's one of comedy's most unpredictable -- and magnetic -- performers. He appeared on WTF with Marc Maron, headlined multiple festivals (including the Vail Comedy Festival and Burbank Comedy Festival), and toured the world performing for US troops across thirteen countries.
Born in Kilgore, Texas, and raised between faith, chaos, and a biker bar, Dustin's early life was equal parts wild and character-building. "My dad owned a biker bar, my mom was devoutly religious -- it was either church three times a week or absolute mayhem," he recalls. His grandfather was a full-blooded Choctaw Native American, and as an adult, Dustin has reconnected with his roots, proudly serving as a member and voter in the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. "Chahta sia hoke -- I am Choctaw proud," he says.
Before comedy, Dustin studied fine arts and fashion design at Parsons School of Design after a stint as a Mormon missionary in Chile. A chance encounter with a part-time comedian introduced him to New York's energizing open mic scene, and soon he was trading his busboy shifts at the New York Comedy Club for late night stage time. "I realized I wasn't meant for the red carpet of fashion," he says. "My runway was a dingy basement with drink minimums and comedy fans. He honed his craft across every major club in NYC -- including legendary spots like the Comic Strip and Comedy Cellar -- earning respect from stand-up icons like Marc Maron, Dave Attell, and Todd Barry along the way.
Dustin's voice is equal parts unfiltered and empathetic, drawn from decades on the road and 18 years of sobriety. "Being sober was the best thing I ever did for myself," he says. "Comedy's my job now -- you wouldn't show up to an office wasted." His act blends sharp, self-aware reflections on family, addiction, and resilience with a love of spontaneous crowd work he calls "crafted chaos." No two shows are ever the same, and that's exactly the point: "I want people to be exhausted from laughing and realize they're not alone." He's performed on cruise ships, in war zones, and at festivals from New York and Portland to Stockholm. "I've played for 35 people on a late show and 20,000 in an arena -- it's all the same to me," he says. "Grab a mic, make 'em laugh, and tell the truth."
When he's not headlining clubs or touring arenas with Nate Bargatze's latest tour, Dustin's schedule is nonstop: he co-hosts the podcast Chasing Comedy with fellow veteran comic Brian Scott McFadden, writes for TV and radio, is working on a book about his journey in stand-up, and is developing a slate of film projects ranging from an animated children's feature to a horror-comedy about life on the road. Dustin currently resides in Los Angeles with his partner and their two adorable rescue dogs.
